He said that Syabas has also been asked to inform of the operating hours of sending water tankers and the gathering place for people to receive water.

“The State Government will continue to monitor water tanker delivery times to areas affected seriously to avoid the people from facing trouble.

“We will take immediate action to ensure that the cleaning operations of the Bukit Tampoi Water Plant will be completed as soon as possible, and we hope that everyone can remain calm,” he said in a statement.

He said this following the discovery of ammonia contamination of over 4 ppm at the Bukit Tampoi Water Plant which forced it to be closed temporarily for cleaning.

The incident caused nearly 20,000 residents in the areas of Kampung Bukit Changgang, Olak Lempit, Labuhan Dagang, and around Banting to be affected of their clean water needs.

Dr Ahmad Yunus, who is also the Assemblyman for Sinjangkang, said that among the methods used to clean the remaining residual ammonia content is by pumping water from the nearby lake near the intake to channel rapid flow of water which will clean the ammonia content.

At the same time, Ahmad Yunus expressed his disappointment as there are a few people who are still now aware of the needs and importance of water to the public.

“People need to realise, water sources that are contaminated by toxic materials are not only harmful to the environment, but has potential to adversely affect health,” he said.
