Azmin: Cooperation from All is Needed to Prevent Dengue

GOMBAK, 21 Dec: Dengue must be addressed collectively rather than solely relying on health departments, the authorities and elected representatives, said Azmin Ali.

The Member of Parliament for Gombak said that the community also plays a big role in ensuring that early preventive measures are implemented.

He said that the community should give their full support for the success of the Communication for Behavioural Impact (Combi) conducted by the Ministry of Health.

“Without full cooperation from residents, it is impossible for Combi to be a success and therefore, would adversely affect the community in which we live in.

“In addition, we also urge those experiencing symptoms of dengue to immediately get a thorough check-up because early detection for dengue is very important. So, do not wait,” he said.

He said this during the opening speech of the Gombak Parliament Dengue Awareness Campaign at the Casmaria Apartment this morning.

Also present were all representatives in the Gombak Parliament; Hasbullah Mohd Ridzwan (Gombak Setia), Saari Sungib (Hulu Klang) and Amirudin Shari (Batu Caves).

In the meantime, Azmin also announced to contribute RM5,000 to the Casmaria Apartment Residents’ Association for maintenance purposes.

“We understand that the cost incurred is relatively high because they need to use a crane to clean up (dengue) breeding grounds at the third and fourth floor.

“Such assistance will also follow in other areas that are hot-spots for dengue cases, depending on their needs,” he said.

The Casmaria Apartment is among the three localities in Gombak experiencing dengue problems, while there is a total of 4 localities across Selangor.

As of mid-December 2013, there have been 21,138 cases reported across Selangor, with 20 deaths.

This amount is seen as a sharp increase compared to last year’s statistics, which only recorded 8,097 cases, with 12 deaths.
