SHAH ALAM, 10 Feb: The Selangor Government received RM564.6 million from the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) for the maintenance of roads in the whole state as stipulated in Article 109 (1)(b) of the Federal Constitution.
The Executive Councillor in charge of Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Facilities, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the provisions include state roads, municipal roads, cheap housing roads, village roads, agricultural roads and back alleys.
He said that the proposed method to use Marris provisions is through Local Authorities, with RM3 million for each State Legislative Assembly, bringing the total to RM168 million.
“The proposed allocation of RM500 thousand for each District Office and Selangor Government Land would bring the total to RM4.5 million,” he said in a press statement today.
He said that the RM156 million allocation will be channeled to the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR).
He said for the RM4 million allocation, it will be given to the Selangor Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) based on applications submitted to the Selangor State Treasury.
“Provisions of RM214.1 million will be given to Local Authorities based on the length of the road in the area, divided by the total length of the road across all local authorities in Selangor, times the remaining provisions the previous year after distribution to all agencies,” he said.
Dr Yunus said that the power to spend has been given to Mayors, Local Authority Presidents, District Officers, the JKR Director and the JPS Director to implement Marris projects for 2014.
He said that every project list from Local Authorities, District Offices, JKR and JPS needs to be reviewed by the technical committee and confirmed by the Marris administrative committee before provisions are implemented.
“Because the state government is focusing this term on rural development, so it is recommended that the RM3 million provisions for each State Assembly should also focus on rural roads maintenance projects registered on the Marris online system,” he said.
He said for the maintenance of roads that do not reach JKR’s minimum standards and are not registered on the Marris online system, reference should be made to the District and Land Office in advance.
