SHAH ALAM, 20 Nov: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim praised the Selangor Budget 2014 which was presented by the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, and described it as a prudent and caring budget.
He said this through his Twitter page in response to tweets by his followers about the Selangor Budget 2014 which was tabled at the Selangor State Assembly session yesterday.
Previously, some local media interpreted the General Chief of PKR’s statement in a forum as allegedly rebuking the way Khalid managed finances.
Selangor, which is administered by Pakatan Rakyat for the second term, allocated RM1.85 billion, the largest in the history of Selangor, for the Balanced Budget 2014 themed ‘An Economic and High Impact Budget for the People’s Well-being’.
The budget is cantered around five key areas; which is to strengthen a pragmatic fiscal management, to be prudent and viable, strengthen effectiveness and efficiency in providing public or private service.
It also reinforces the rapid pro-growth policies, enhance the wellbeing of the people and ensure a world-class quality of life in addition to ensuring a sustainable and inclusive development.
Abdul Khalid also announced plans to use state reserves, totalling to RM430 million, to finance the development of six initiatives.
The six initiatives involved is; RM150 for the construction of the Klang Third Bridge, RM100 million for affordable homes, RM50 million for school buildings, RM50 million for entrepreneurial and youth empowerment, RM50 million for rural development and RM30 million for the empowerment of women.
The state government will also spend RM1.055 billion or 46.3 percent from the total amount for development purposes which will be spent for 2014, and RM1.225 billion or 53.7 percent for management expenditure, bringing the overall spending to RM2.28 billion.
