Tourism Selangor Targets 6.5 Million Tourists in 2014

SUBANG, 1 Jan: For the sake of realising the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014, Tourism Selangor targets 6.5 million tourists in Selangor for this year.

This target has been set to surpass the number of tourists, which nearly reached 6.3 million, from October 2013, that visited Selangor.

The General Manager of Tourism Selangor, Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din, said that Tourism Selangor is ready to welcome tourists and is confident with tourism products provided.

“We urge all tourists to visit Selangor and I think what we did in 2013, all products in Selangor, are ready to welcome the presence of tourists who will arrive.

“With all the facilities, information and efforts shown by all Local Authorities convince me to welcome the arrival of tourists.

“The Selangor Government has always helped and encouraged us with the 6.5 million tourists target this time. We hope that this target can be achieved,” she told Selangor Kini.

Prior to this, Noorul Ashikin, together with Tourism Malaysia, celebrated the arrival of tourists at the Skypark Terminal in Subang.

Tourists who arrived were adorned by bead necklaces while being entertained with dance performances.

The VMY 2014 celebration was made at 37 checkpoints to welcome tourists to Malaysia.

Apart from the Subang Skypark terminal, the event also took place at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) and the Langkawi International Airport.

In addition, tourists that used the services of cruise ships to come to Malaysia were welcomed at the Port Klang Cruise Centre (PKCC) in Port Klang.

‘Proboscis Monkey’ was chosen as the VMY 2014 mascot to enliven the celebration at flight arrival halls to appreciate and conserve wildlife, in addition to increasing awareness among tourists bout this special animal by uplifting nature as a national asset.

In addition to the physical uniqueness and abilities, this species of monkeys is among the endangered species that can be found in the island of Borneo.
