MDKL demolishes unauthorised billboards

SHAH ALAM, JULY 1: Two unauthorised billboards in Kuala Langat District Council’s (MDKL) jurisdiction were torn down recently.

MDKL Yang Dipertua Mohd Azhar Mohamed Ali said the structures were located at KLIA Highway Kilometre (KM) A2.6 and Elite Highway at KM 16.0 (Southbound).

According to him, both billboards were not in compliance with MDKL rules and regulations.

“A billboard structure must first be approved by the local authority of the area.

“This is necessary to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, and also taking into account comments from the technical department to ensure safety when the billboard is built,” he said in a statement.

The operation was led by the MDKL Building Control Department Director, together with 60 officers and staff, and the help of two construction machines owned by Kuala Langat Public Works Department.

Mohd Azhar said that reminder notices had been sent to the billboard structure owners but were ignored.

“A 14-days Demolition Notice was issued on April 21 and the final notice was a 24-Hour Demolition Notice, both under Section 72(1) Road, Drain and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).

“The demolition itself was also carried out under the provision of Section 72(1) Road, Drain and Building Act 1974 (Act 133),” he said.
