Exco: Welfare of Indigenous People in Selangor Given Attention

KUALA LANGAT, 12 Feb: The Selangor Government is always looking after the welfare of the indigenous people; in fact, there is a Selangor Executive Councillor responsible for monitoring and paying close attention to the problems of indigenous people in the state.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Dr Yunus Hairi, said that indigenous people are also Bumiputeras who have their rights guaranteed under the Malaysian Constitution.

He said this at the closing ceremony of the Indigenous People Caring Visit Programme at Kampung Sungai Kurau, Pulau Carey in Kuala Langat recently.

Those involved include the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), the Kuala Langat District Islamic Religious Office (PAID), the Selangor Branch Malaysian Ulama Association (PUM), the Medic Team from University of Malaya and the Sijangkang Assemblyman’s Community Service Centre (PKM).

Also present was the Kuala Langat PAS Sisters Assembly and the Tok Batin of Kampung Sungai Kurau, as the host.

The two-day programme also included visitating five Muslim and non-Muslim families from the indigenous community.

In addition to the dialogue programme, health treatment, giving contributions and games held to build Ukhuwwah (relationship in Islam) and friendship.

Dr Yunus hopes that this programme will continue from time to time and many other NGOs, associations, clubs and individuals come together to perform Ukhuwwah with the indigenous people.
