When Umno Youth fail to use their ‘brains’ to argue, use ‘muscle’ to fight

SHAH ALAM, 23 May: A series of ‘terrorism’ attacks by Umno Youth in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Perak recently has been continuously criticised by local communities, including Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders and political activists on social networking sites.

Most who uploaded their status on Twitter expressed dissatisfaction with the group’s extreme actions and the Umno member’s attempt to provoke clearly shows a thug culture that is spreading in the party.

The Coordinator of Malaysian Youth Solidarity (SAMM), Badrul Hisham Shaharin, criticised Umno’s violent actions; which was started at the Penang State Assembly, disrupting the Teluk Intan by-election campaign and the threat to burn down the DAP headquarters in the capital.

He said that the three attacks clearly show that the party is no longer relevant to be accepted by the people because they often use physical strength to riot and fight, instead of arguing and discussing wisely.

“That is Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN). When they fail to use their ‘brains’ to argue, they use their ‘muscles’ to fight.

“Umno supporters attacked the Penang State Assembly, and provoked. What is Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s comment on this? And the police, they only looked in silence?

“When rioting, Umno shouted vulgar words that are clearly racist. Najib should be responsible,” said Badrul, better known as Chegu Bard, on Twitter.

Chegu Bard also slammed the Umno Youth Chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, when he took the safe way by keeping silent without imposing any disciplinary action against his members.

He is also of the opinion that no apology needs to be said to Umno because the party had also insulted PR and issued various racist statements.

“Khairy had called those from the Indian community, who held demonstrations claiming that their quality of life is terrible, as apes or monkeys and (he) had never apologised.

“So if a DAP calls pro-Umnos uncouth for demonstrating and trying to deviate the ‘Najib Kangkung’ issue, and bringing up the May 13 threats, there is no need to apologise,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara, Tony Pua, said that the ‘Mat rempit’ disease is clearly spreading in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Perak, especially in the DNA of Umno Youth.

In fact, he said that the party’s allies, Gerakan, MCA and MIC, are only keeping silent and not criticising the actions that clearly cross the line.

“This is Gerakan, MCA and MIC’s partner. There has been no criticism at all from these parties.

“Let the people see for themselves the proof of Umno being uncouth because they can make the right choice in the by-election this time,” he said on Facebook.

The Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, Khalid Samad, on Twitter, said that “If they are not thugs, they are not Umno Youth. Trespasses the Dewan and threatens to burn the DAP office building. Is this the Malay culture? Spoiled, spoiled.”
