SHAH ALAM, 27 May: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) urges the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to intervene and conduct an investigation on the RM40 million loan from Bank Rakyat scandal, as disclosed by the former Chairman of the bank, Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik.
The Central PAS Information Chief, Datuk Mahfuz Omar, said that the MACC cannot remain silent in this issue because it affects public interest.
“How could Datuk Seri Hasan Malek, as the Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, decide to settle the RM32 million debt without calculating in the interest?
“We want to know on whose direction was this done and is it intended to silence individuals who have information on scandals involving our country’s leaders,” he said, quoted from Harakah Daily.
The Member of Parliament for Pokok Sena also asked the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to not remain silent and come forward to provide an explanation.
“As the Finance Minister, Najib must explain the decision made and how an easy loan of RM40 million, without interest, was given.
“Even the settlement of the outstanding debts is through 120 post-dated cheques cashed by the bank over a period of 10 years. It is something impossible without the order of someone with authority,” he said, quoted from Harakah Daily.
The PKR Vice-President, N.Surendran, said that the allegation is very serious and the MACC should investigate Hasan Malek is abuse of power happened.
He said that Najib Razak cannot remain silent because the individual is also said to have close ties with the government.
“These are huge allegations. Najib cannot remain silent. It should be investigated immediately.
“The MACC should investigate Hasan Malek and take immediate action if it is true that he abused power. This issue shows cronyism within Umno itself,” he said, quoted from Suara Keadilan.
The DAP Secretary-General, Lim Guan Eng, said that Najib should explain to the public this expose by Sabbaruddin because the VIP concerned is closely related to BN leader and has power in Putrajaya.
In addition to that, he said that Najib should also explain the basis of Bank Rakyat giving out this loan.
