Transportation Master Plan studies traffic system in Petaling Jaya

PETALING JAYA, 9 July: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is currently carrying out efforts to develop the Transportation Master Plan which will study the area’s transport and traffic system in a holistic manner.

The MBPJ Mayor, Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad, said that the plan will take into account the relationship between land use planning, road networks, rail-based system and traffic management and public transport.

In addition, she said, the plan also involved parking systems, the issue of commercial vehicle movement and the issue of carbon dioxide release from transport systems.

She said that MBPJ has appointed the University of Malaya Traffic Consultancy Unit to carry out the studies to realise that goal.

“The transportation study specifically aims to examine and identify existing transportation problems throughout the MBPJ region towards making Petaling Jaya a sustainable city by 2030,” she said.

Alinah said that the plan will also be prepared to formulate recommendations to improve short-term, medium-term and long-term action plans until 2025.

“The collection of traffic data has already started on May 1 and was completed on June 24. However, other data collection activities, such as public transport, parking and so on, are still on-going.

She informed that MBPJ has also set up a technical committee, consisting of six council members and professional bodies, to monitor the implementations of the study’s recommendations.

“The committee also includes the Land Public Transport Commission, the Public Works Department, the Malaysian Highway Authority, MIROS and MOT.

“Also, the authorities involved includes the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council and the Shah Alam City Council, as well as the Petaling district traffic police and Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad,” she said.
