MAPIM urges immediate investigation on fire at tahfiz centre

SHAH ALAM, SEP 15: The Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) has urged the authorities to conduct immediate investigation to determine the cause of fire at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz Centre, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Its President, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said, the case attracted public attention and investigation results could be helpful in avoiding the same incident from recurring.

“Although the incident was unexpected, building safety regulations, especially education institution housing many students, must be met and regularly inspected.

“Every party must take serious effort to ensure the buildings are safe,” he said.

MAPIM expressed condolence to all victims’ families and the management of Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz Centre on the tragedy.

In the incident yesterday, 23 victims, 2 teachers and 21 students were killed in the fire at the tahfiz centre.

Police in a statement said that further investigation is being conducted and everyone is asked to cooperate.
