SHAH ALAM, 26 Dec: Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has stressed that they do not have any authority to sequester any landfills operating illegally in Sri Gombak.

On the other hand, according to MPS Public Relations Officer Ahmad Fauzi Ishak, MPS can only seize and impose compounds on vehicles (lorries) that carry construction waste into the area.

He said that any action to sequester the site is under the jurisdiction of the Gombak Department of Land and District.

“The MPS Enforcement and Security Department cannot sequester the site, but can only seize lorries that enter and exit the area. MPS cannot sequester the site because it is private land. Thus, only the land office can act on that site,” he said when contacted by TV Selangor.

As a short-term action, he said, MPS will conduct consistent monitoring by their enforcement personnel beginning 8am to 5pm.

Today, Sinar Harian Newspaper reported that a number of residents are not satisfied with the lorry’s action of transporting construction waste to an illegal landfill in the area.

Residents claim that although the area has been quarantined, activity still continued less than two hours after enforcement action was taken.

The operation which began at about 7am to 7pm, resulted in roads specifically built for the use of the residents, failed to support the 10 to 14 tonne load of the lorry and was damaged.
