SHAH ALAM, 14 Jan: The PAS Youth and Women’s Council are developing the ‘Perumahan Rakyat Budiman’ project that involves the reconstruction of flood victims’ homes, where some of them are only living on stairs and site.
The PAS Youth Chief, Suhaizan Kayat, said that the cost of each home is estimated at RM30,000 to RM40,000, which is being funded by the civil society with the slogan ‘Daripada rakyat yang budiman untuk mereka yang memerlukan’ (From the wise to those in need).
He said that the concept of permanent homes following the Rumah Dhu’afak in Kelantan sized 34’x24′ houses three rooms, a living room, a kitchen, a toilet and a balcony.
He said that the initiative was triggered after seeking advice from engineering, architectural, technical and legal consultants who specialise in construction to ensure that the homes built are of the same quality with its price.
“So far, the homes promised are five units with the accumulated cash of RM192,000. I expect that this fund will increase every day.
“Malaysians who are wise will fill up this fund,” he told Selangor Kini today.
Suhaizan said that the location of focus is in Kuala Krai, particularly Manek Urai and the pilot home will be built in Kampung Temiang.
Based on the survey made in Kampung Gajah, there are 12 housing units near the river that have been proposed for rrconstruction, however PAS has not received information whether they will be moved or will continue living at the location.
In addition, he said that the concept of ‘Connected Lots’ with a minimum of RM10 thousand per lot will be created and the name of the largest contributor will be displayed in front of the PRB housing.
“Actually, it comes from a large contribution. They will know which homes are contributed and the growth each month.
“This will create new family ties after the flood as a result of their contribution. That is what we are emphasising,” he said.
Those willing to contribute can make donations directly to the Tabung Kemanusiaan Pemuda through the Maybank account (564025400100).
The fund will be audited every month by a chartered accountant and the report will be disclosed to the public through the media.
