PUTRAJAYA, 24 May: A catfish weighing 5.34 kilograms (kg) was caught after two hours of the competition, bringing luck to an Assistant Film Director, Mohd Hafiz Mat Ishak, 24, when the champion took home RM30,000 at the Selangor Science Lake Park.
“My chicken stomach bait used managed to catch the fish after waiting for two hours,” he said, second time winning the fishing tournament this month.
Hafiz, 24, when interviewed, said that he was grateful for the participation in the tournament which paid off even though he was busy with shooting.
He said that he has always wanted to make fishing a hobby since he was a child.
“Indeed, my hobby is fishing, when I was young I always followed by father. The important thing in fishing is patience.
“I will use this family for my family.
“I’m still single so I will use it for my family,” said the employee of White Merpati Production.
Hafiz won by beating over 1,200 other participants by taking home the cash prize of RM30,000 and a hamper.
The second place winner took home RM7,000 in cash and the third RM3,000.
The prizes were presented by the General Manager of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), Azlan Md Alifiah.
Azlan said that the event was to promote the 11 PKNS city which is the Selangor Science Lake Park to the public.
