The ringgit has plummeted, Najib is relaxed without concrete action

SHAH ALAM, 29 Sept: There is no sign of the depreciation of the ringgit stopping, in fact the Federal government seems to regard it as a trivial issue.

The Klang MP, Charles Santiago, said despite the economic downturn that is worsening, Datuk Seri Najib Razak is too relaxed without trying to provide the people with confidence.

He said that the situation is adversely affecting those earning a low-income if the government remains silent and does not take drastic measures.

“The Prime Minister is New York now and I do not understand why he is there instead of focusing on the problems of the people.

“How can a leader leave his people in trouble? It is an irresponsible act and the Prime Minister is relaxed on this issue,” he told Selangor Kini.

At the same time, Charles said that the open economic policy practiced in Malaysia poses a risk to the increase in prices of imported goods, including medicines.

He said that the people who wish to receive treatment at government hospitals or clinics also have to pay higher prices for services.

“This issue is also related to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that have to increase costs to purchase raw materials or machinery and spare parts from abroad.

“The people are affected, but to this day, we have not seen any minister issuing any plan to solve this problem,” he said.

The Malaysian Ringgit continued to fall to its weakest since 2005, amid the investigation of misuse of funds by the Prime Minister.

The ringgit stands at RM4.47 against the US dollar.
