SHAH ALAM, 2 Sept: The presence of the former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamad, and his wife at the BERSIH 4.0 rally in the capital on 29 and 30 August was welcomed by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The former opposition leader said this in a message that was delivered through his lawyer on September 1.
“I welcome the presence of Tun Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Ali, who also joined in the BERSIH 4.0,” he said.
Anwar also congratulated the hundreds of thousands of Malaysians who joined the rally, which is considered to be a great success in meeting BERSIH’s demands.
“This rally proves that Malaysians are more mature and responsible in exercising their rights to expression and peaceful assembly.
“Despite being threatened and prevented by the government, the people are determined for change or to fight against corruption and fraud,” he said.
The BERSIH 4,0 rally managed to bring together about 500,000 participants that demanded for Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign.
Surprisingly, the two-day rally was also attended by Tun Mahathir and received the attention of many.
