Surprise over quick identification of suspect

SHAH ALAM, SEPT 18: The Vice President of Pakatan Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Tian Chua, expressed surprise when the police quickly identified a suspect for the case of the late Kevin Anthony Morais.

Tian Chua said that following the bribery case involving the colonel military doctor, the case was not the only high-profile case handled by the Deputy Public Prosecutor.

“Morais was involved in many high-profile cases. I do not know why the police could so quickly identify the military doctor and link him to Morais’ death.

“But never mind, we’ll wait,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

He said that a transparent and fair investigation is needed to avoid another mysterious death like the murder case of Altantuya Shaaribu.

“The police need to be bolder in their investigations to avoid feelings of prejudice from the public and prevent unsolved murder cases which have happened a few times before,” he said.

Yesterday, Federal Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh confirmed that Morais, who was reported missing on 4 September, was murdered after his body was found in a concrete-filled barrel in USJ 1, Subang Jaya.

Police confirmed that seven people were arrested the day before the discovery of Morais’ body.

“We believe there is a connection with a case in the Shah Alam Court as Morais was handling corruption cases as a prosecutor,” he said.
