SHAH ALAM, 7 May: The Election Commission (EC) has been urged to form an independent commission to investigate all allegations of misconduct during the 13th General Election (GE-13).
PKR Vice-President, Azmin Ali said that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) received worrying feedback from candidates and voters about fraud, phantom voters, and lack of transparency during the voting process this time.
“We have received a lot of information and feedback from voters and candidates when visiting polling stations that there are worrying cases where there is fraud, phantom voters, (and) injustice in the election process.
“We do not want this to continue and we hope that the EC can take immediate action to respond to the complaints and allegations made and to respond with strong and firm evidence,” said the Selangor PKR Leadership Council Chairman.
He said this in Selangor PR leadership press conference at the office of the Shah Alam Member of Parliament, Khalid Samad today.
In the meantime, the Selangor PAS Commissioner, Dr Abdul Rani Osman said that the EC should be responsible for all complaints made regarding misconduct during the GE-13 voting process.
He said that the EC Chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yusuf should resign for failing to carry out duties fairly and impartially.
“We ask for the EC Chairman to just resign.
“Because I myself was among the more than 250 people in Meru who lodged a police report because the supposedly indelible ink on my finger was removed when washed. The EC previously denied that the ink could be removed,” said the Meru Assemblyman.
According to Dr Rani, his research on the GE process in countries overseas that use indelible ink, non has happened as it has in this country.
“Previously, when I went to Tamil Nadu and Kenya, both of which use indelible ink, the ink could stay for more than a week, while the ink in this country was bought with millions of the people’s money.
“It would be better to wear henna, it is cheaper,” he insinuated.
He explained that the fraud during the GE is very clear in some areas where there were blackouts during the counting process and the presence of foreign nationals who were given identification cards to vote.
“There were also recurring events in places where the lights went off. The situation before and after was different. For example in the Kuala Selangor Parliament, Dr Dzulkefly was originally in the lead but finally lost with a slim majority.
“When we asked for a recount, it was reject even when there was a lawyer present,” he added.
