Exco: 556 fishermen receive RM1.3 million in assistance since 2012

SABAK BERNAM, 24 Aug: The state government has always made sure that the revenue they receive is shared with all levels of society, including fishermen in the state.

The Exco for Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that so far the state government has spent RM1.3 million to help these people increase their income.

“In order to help fishermen or traditional fishermen, the Selangor government provides assistance programmes when the fishermen are eligible and approved to receive sampan, boat engines, nets and fishing equipment assistance.

“Since 2012, 556 fishermen have received assistance in the form of sampans, engines or fishing equipment involving an allocation of approximately RM1.3 million,” Zaidy said.

He said this when launching the Traditional Fishing Competition, people’s Banquet and Release of Fish Fry at Parit 12, Sungai Panjang, yesterday.

He explained that the state government remains committed to help fishermen with a variety of assistance based on the needs of the group.

To help river fishermen, the state government is working to ensure that the species of fish that makes the rivers in Selangor as a habitat is preserved from extinction.
