Google pays tribute to the late Mokhtar Dahari

SHAH ALAM, 13 Nov: Google paid tribute to Malaysia’s football legend, the late Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Dahari, by displaying a caricature of him on the main search page in conjunction with his birthday on November 13.

The caricature of the late Mokhtar, who was born on 13 November 1953, was displayed with him stretching out his arms while wearing the national jersey number 10.

Mokhtar, who was nicknamed ‘Super Mokh’, is a sensational striker from the Selangor team since 1972 to 1987, with a record of 177 goals.

Along with Selangor, Mokhtar helped the team lift the Malaysia Cup 10 times.

After fighting valiantly alongside The Red Giants, the Setapak-born player finally decided to play in Kwong Yik Bank (now RHB Bank) and scored 20 goals.

In addition, he also joined the Sultan Sulaiman Club, Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Talasco.

With the Malaysia team, he played a total of 167 times, starting from 1972, with a record of 125 goals.

Throughout his career as a professional player, the late Mokhtar played against the Argentina team legend, Diego Maradona, in a friendly match at Stadium Merdeka in 1982.

At the time, he was the team captain for the Selangor team against the Boca Juniors, with Boca Juniors winning 2-1.

Mokhtar also scored the equalizer 1-1 goal for the national team against the England B squad which was coached by the legendary Bobby Robson in a friendly match in 1978.

The late Mokhtar Dahari passed away on 11 July 1991 at the Subang Medical Centre at the age of 37 years.
