Syariah Court to commence night court sessions beginning July 25

SHAH ALAM, JUL 23: The Selangor Syariah Court will start holding hearings in the evenings effective July 25 in an effort to reduce the high number of outstanding cases in the state.

Selangor Chief Syarie Judge Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mohkhar said, the initiative was also to help those who had difficulty obtaining leave during the day to attend court proceedings.

He said he will be conducting the first night court proceeding on Monday, twice a month, from 8 pm to 10 pm.

He added that the night trial session will be extended to other Syarie judges’ courts in stages.

“I took the initiative to expedite and to reduce the number of pending cases in particular.

“Therefore, I hope all Syarie judges in Selangor are willing to hold ‘night court’ sessions to reduce the backlogs,” he said in a statement.

He further added, the night court proceedings are also a form of contribution and corporate social responsibility exercised by the Selangor Syariah Court to help the community.

Mohd Na’im had conducted proceedings in the evenings when he was the Petaling Syariah Lower Court Judge in 1998 to 2000 and during that period, about 2,000 outstanding cases resolved.
