Northport should make early preparations to prevent disruption of operations

SHAH ALAM, 12 May: The North Klang Port (Northport) management should learn from the technical failure of their computer system which caused their operations to be disrupted.

The Exco for Local Government, Studies and Research, Datuk Teng Chang Khim, said that the management of Northport should have made more systematic early preparations to minimise the risk faced.

“The port has taken the initiative to recover all operations at Northport.

“It recovered one hundred percent after two to three days,” he said during his visit to Northport today.

Teng said that Port Klang is the biggest port in the Asian region after the Singapore port, therefore the issue affected their very good past reputation.

“Port Klang in general is able to manage 10.9 million TEU annually and continues to grow as a distribution centre in the Asian region.

“Given that Port Klang has a strategic location, cooperation from all parties is needed to ensure that this incident does not repeat,” said Teng.

He said that it is necessary for the government to maximise the potential of Port Klang to realise Selangor as a centre of international trade.
