Zakat on the streets while busking

SHAH ALAM, 27 May: Zakat & Street is a casual concept with busking activities, lucky draws and information sessions to reach out to the community on awareness of paying Zakat.

The LZS Missionary and Marketing Sector Head, Mohamed Syahril Zainol, said that in addition to delivering information in a relaxed fashion, the programme is also to outreach to people who do not have the chance to go to Zakat counters.

“We made better and strategic planning with a combination of several other agencies to ensure the success of this programme.

“With this programme, the people will become more aware of their obligation to pay Zakat, and the process will be more organised through campaigns, pamphlets and so on,” he told Selangor Kini.

Syahril said that LZS chose locations that are frequented by the public such as night markets to disseminate information.

“We found that people rarely hear about Zakat holding such programmes on the streets to approach all groups, including the young people.

“LZS has a target of at least twice a year for this programme to be carried out and if there is a need, we will increase it,” he said.

Prior to this, LZS held the programme at Laman Seni Section 7 in cooperation with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).
