SHAH ALAM, 19 Nov: The Selangor State Ruminant Breeders Association (PPRNS) welcomes the plan by the state government to provide a site for animal farmers who were forced to move due to the pressures of development.
The Chairman of PPRNS, Samad Kassim, hopes that the fate of breeders and their stables that were demolished will be defended. According to him, the issue has been going on since the period of BN’s administration.
“We welcome it and thank the Chief Minister. We hope that a meeting between PPRNS and the Chief Minister, as well as the new Exco (Agro-based Industry), Zaidy Abdul Talib, can be held in the near future.
“Hopefully, the problems faced by the breeders in this state for a long time can be overcome in a win-win situation,” he said.
More than 1,300 ruminant farmers (cattle, buffalo and goats) are pressured by development and the problem of limited land in Selangor, with some of them being forced to fold their businesses.
Samad explained that most breeders are forced to move following the development in nearby areas.
“In the past two weeks alone, two stables were demolished behind the wholesale market in the Puchong industrial area,” he said.
Recently, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state government is ready to assist ruminant animal breeders in the state by providing a suitable site if the parties involved agree to seek a solution together.
“But we want an understanding between both parties (the state government and animal farmers). If they agree to move, we have no problem in helping,” he said.
