SHAH ALAM, 25 July: The Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, today announced the cancellation of the Aidilfitri open house at Dataran Dewan Negeri Selangor, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building, which was supposed to take place on the first day of Raya.
In a press statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Abdul Khalid said that the cancellation is to respect the tragedy of the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aircraft which was shot down and crashed in eastern Ukraine, killing 298 passengers and crew, on July 17.
“The whole country is saddened by this tragedy, in fact Muslims are still prescribed to celebrate Aidilfitri a month after carrying out the Ramadan fasting.
“We hope that the people of Selangor will celebrate this year’s Aidilfitri in moderation and with decorum,” he said.
