Over RM160 thousand involved in upgrading USJ 3A retention pond

SUBANG JAYA, 7 June: The USJ 3A retention pond will be upgraded through clean-up and conservation work at an overall cost of RM167,980.

The Assemblywoman for Subang Jaya, Hannah Yeoh, said that the cost will be fully paid by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and it is expected to take eight weeks to complete.

She said that the work started on May 15 and is expected to be fully completed on July 9.

“The Subang Jaya Assemblywoman’s office and a former council member, who is now the Assemblyman for Bukit Gasing, R Rajiv, have insisted on this project for years.

“Therefore, we are very pleased that MPSJ is willing to provide funds towards the success of this project this year,” she said during a press conference yesterday.

Apart from Rajiv, also present was the Member of Parliament for Kelana Jaya, Wong Chen, and the MPSJ Engineering Department Assistant Senior Engineer, Shahrul Izhar Arsat.

Hannah said that her office will also install more floodlights at the retention pool for the purpose of safety, especially for the residents living in the surrounding area.

“In addition to that, I have previously also given several suggestions to MPSJ to improve the existing system. Among other things, I asked the Engineering Department to install more grills on the drain at the right side of the 10-acre retention pond,” she said.

The cleaning and conservation will be carried out by an appointed contractor, Rezeki Umpetan Enterprise, and they will carry out work like digging and removing the rubbish using a floating excavator.

Apart from that, the contractor will also gather and collect garbage and floating plants by using floating vehicles manually, taking the slit and rubbish from the site using lorries, as well as repairing damaged embankments.

At the same time, the contractor is also responsible for levelling the ground using a backhoe before planting 300mm x 300mm grass closely at the catchment area.
