Willingness to be a SELCAT witness proves Abdul Khalid is transparent

SHAH ALAM, 18 June: The presence of the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, as a witness in Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (SELCAT) hearing proves that he is committed and transparent.

Abdul Khalid (PKR-Port Klang) was called as a witness regarding the issue of the Bukit Antarabangsa Assemblyman, Mohamed Azmin Ali’s (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa) position in the Selangor Economic Development Corporation (PKNS) Board of Directors.

Abdul Khalid’s presence as a witness in the SELCAT hearing on March 25 received praise from the Assemblyman of Sekinchan, Ng Suee Lim (DAP), who deemed it as a good attitude and should be emulated by all, including the Prime Minister.

“During this hearing, a unique thing happened when the SELCAT committee, which was established in this honourable Assembly, for the first time, called upon the Chief Minister.

“The Chief Minister attended it and gave full cooperation to the committee. It is a good example because as the head of government, he is responsible for all issues regarding the government.

“It has never happened in history where a Chief Minister was willing to appear as a witness, even in the Parliament. If we asked the Prime Minister, he too has not done so.

“This is the example of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leadership which is responsible and practices transparency,” he said when tabling the motion regarding the termination of Azmin as a member of the PKNS Board of Directors and the contract termination of 20 employees of PKNS Holdings.

He said this during the third day of the Selangor State Assembly session, today.

Meanwhile, when touching on the termination of Mohamed Azmin as a member of the PKNS Board of Directors, Suee Lim urged the State Government to explain the true status of his position.

“SELCAT found no evidence that confirms Azmin’s termination as a member of the PKNS Board of Directors. Any move to terminate the services of contracted employees should be carried out in a more orderly fashion in future,” he said.
