The UMNO-controlled private television station, TV3 allegedly “cheated” in its news report on flood relief efforts at Crocker Range in Tenom, Sabah, which was broadcast through the Buletin Utama news last night.
According to the news report, Tenom UMNO Youth were among the earliest parties to send aids to the flood victims in the area.
However, Fariz Musa, the coordinator of Jingga 13, claimed that the visuals displayed in the news report were actually from an old video recording dated May 29, 2007.
“I was not the only one that realised it. Many others have noticed this too. It became even more obvious as TV3 tried to cover up the date of the video recording which caused some curiosity. A quick search revealed the truth; but of course if TV3 had not covered up the date, it would have failed even faster.
“TV3 continues to be the UMNO’s propaganda media to the extend of deceiving the people that UMNO had sent aid to flood victims. The flood in Tenom was caused by water overflowing from the Padas Dam resulting in rapid water flow at Crocker Range” said Fariz, when contacted by Selangor Kini today.
Fariz said, there is no reason to cover up news report on flood relief, as is often done to cover up faces of criminal suspects.
Fariz added, TV3 should have acted professionally by not allowing themselves to be manipulated by certain parties causing them to be discredited in eyes of the public in recent years.
He also claimed that this is not the first time that the station has committed fraud. Jingga 13 previously lodged a police report against TV3 on an issue regarding an apostasy lie in 2011.
In yesterday’s issue, TV3 allegedly used old video recordings in the flood relief news and the report went viral on the social networking site, Facebook. Many users recognised the old footage and TV3 attracted strong criticism and backlash from many users.
If allegations are true, it is not only an embarrassment but also an insult and mocking of the flood victims in Tenom who are expecting help from all parties.
There is no official explanation on this matter from the media company up until now.
