Hire-purchase scheme: Federal lags, Selangor leads

BY: NORHAYATI UMOR

SHAH ALAM, AUG 15: The no-deposit hire-purchase scheme to be implemented by the Federal Government is seen as ‘lagging behind’ as Selangor has already implemented it since 2015.

Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement Exco Dato’ Iskandar Abdul Samad said that Selangor offers the DanaSel hire-purchase scheme without deposit to help buyers who fail to obtain bank loans.

“The Federal Government is lagging behind.  This clearly shows that Selangor always leads compared to other states in whatever action,” he said to SelangorKini.

Through DanaSel, the State Government will purchase the house and rent it out to buyers while they obtain the necessary bank loan for the purchase.

The State Government will then sell the house to the buyer after deducting the rental amount which they have paid.

Iskandar said the State Government has also allocated RM10 million to the Selangor Property and Housing Board (LPHS) to implement the scheme.

To date, a total of 118 urban settlers in Kampung Rimba Jaya, Shah Alam and 116 settlers in Kampung Batu 8, Hulu Kelang have been offered the scheme.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently announced Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) in the capital which will be based on a no-deposit hire-purchase system.
