SELCAT: MMKN Did Not Touch on Azmin’s Position as a Member of the PKNS Board of Directors

SHAH ALAM, 25 Mar: The State Government Council Meeting (MMKN) did not discuss or decide on the position of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Deputy President, Azmin Ali, as a member of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) Board of Directors.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the authority to discuss the matter really lies in the hands of the State Executive Council; however no decision was made during the meeting.

He said that automatically, Azmin’s position remains if no decision is made, but it depends until investigation on the matter is fully complete.

“The MMKN meeting did not at all touch on Azmin’s position as a member of the board of directors, so his position remains. However, a notification letter from the General Manager of PKNS that Azmin was no longer a Member of the Board of Directors has raised questions.

“As a consequence from the letter, Azmin’s position has been suspended until investigation on the General Manager and the PKNS Private Secretary is completed,” he said.

He said this when responding to questions from the panel members of the Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (SELCAT) at the Annex Hall today.

The panelists include the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Speaker, Hannah Yeoh; the Assemblyman for Sekinchan, Ng Suee Lim; the Assemblyman for Seri Setia, nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; the Assemblyman for Hulu Kelang, Saari Sungib; the Assemblyman for Meru, Dr Abdul Rani Osman and the Assemblyman for Permatang, Sulaiman Abdul Razak.

At the same time, Abdul Khalid said that MMKN only briefly informed about the appointment of Datuk Teng Chang Khim as the new Board of Directors Member replacing the Members of Parliament for Seputeh, Teresa Kok, while the position of the Exco for Housing, Iskandar Abdul Samad, has is maintained.

He said that the General Manager of PKNS acted alone when he wrote the letter to Azmin that MMKN decided to not keep him as a member of the Board of Directors.

“We only briefly discussed the matter because I was of the opinion that it should not be prolonged in the meeting because there is no need. Azmin’s issue did not come up because his contract is valid until 2015,” he said.

The former General Manager of PKNS, Datuk Othman Omar, previously sent a letter to Azmin to inform him that he had been fired from the PKNS Board of Directors.

The letter was based on Exco papers delivered back to PKNS which did not include Azmin’s name in the list of Board of Directors by only leaving it blank and interpreting that he has been dismissed.

However, the Selangor Chief Minister’s office disputed PKNS’s right to make their own interpretations and their actions without referring to Abdul Khalid as the Chairman.
