Massive 1 May Assembly, Oppose GST, TPPA and Increase in Price

SHAH ALAM, 4 Apr: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) urges everyone to attend in a massive assembly on 1 May to voice objections to the Umno-BN government.

The PAS Deputy President, Mohamad Sabu, said that PR will also mobilise all members and supporters to attend the assembly organised by the non-governmental organisation, Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM).

He said the presence of the public is important to give a message of objection on the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) and rising prices.

“PR will join the assembly organised by the NGO to continue our efforts since January with a protest tour (GST, TPPA and rising prices).

“We will gather as many as possible, hundreds of thousands (for the assembly),” he said in a press conference today.

The press conference held at the PAS Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur was also joined by the PAS Committee Member, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and the Vice-President of PJR, Tian Chua.

Through a video footage by Harakahdaily, Tian CHua said that this assembly was important to give warning to Umno-BN to manage public funds properly, thus reducing the burden of the people who are increasingly oppressed.

“After the election, until now, we have not seen any progress of effort from the Federal Government to help improve the people’s economy to adjust to the increase in cost of living.

“now, inflation is on the rise, household debt has increased, but the Federal Government is only making songs (GST) to be broadcast by the media and there is no concrete preparation to reduce the people’s burden in facing the implementation of the GST a year from now,” he said.

The assembly in early May is expected to start at 2pm to 5pm, and will be joined by several other NGOs.

Participants will gather at several locations such as the National Mosque, Sogo, Dataran Maybank and Brickfields before marching to Dataran Merdeka.
