Politicians, do not drag the media into your internal crisis

SHAH ALAM, 10 July: Today, the Angry Media Movement (GERAMM) condemned the actions of unscrupulous people who abuse names of the media to spread false news, especially for the interests of certain political parties.

In its Secretariat statement, GERAMM insisted that the media should not be used as a political tool by parties, whether it is Pakatan Rakyat (PR) or Barisan Nasional (BN).

Therefore, GERAMM urged all politicians to not drag the media into their internal political crisis because the media should be free and not bound.

“It is undeniable that the media is responsible for reporting any political developments in the country, but misusing the name of the media to incite the party’s internal crisis is an irresponsible act.

“The action can also be seen as a criminal offense,” they said.

On the night of July 6, a message allegedly quoting sources from the media began to spread via Whatsapp informing that the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, will face the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to resign.

“A special press conference will follow,” quoting the message, which was later denied by the officer in the Chief Minister’s office.

The rumour is believed to exert pressure on Abdul Khalid, who is vying for the position of Deputy President of PKR against the incumbent, Azmin Ali, and the PKR Secretary General, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution.,

“With this, GERAMM wants to emphasise that there has been a clear attempt to exploit the media’s name for the personal interests of certain politicians, who have previously complained that their statements had been distorted by the media and this act should be condemned,” they said.
