HULU SELANGOR, AUG 25: The State Government has spent RM296,000 to rebuild the bridge in Kampung Baru Gurney, although it is the Federal Government’s responsibility under its Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS).

Local Government, New Village Development and Illegal Factory Legalisation Exco, Ean Yong Hian Wah said the Federal Government had built the original bridge but there was no further action taken although the requirement a new bridge has been voiced since 2012.

He said, the State Government agreed to bear the cost in view of the pressing need for it by over 1000 residents of the village.

“By right, the Federal Government should give the budget, unfortunately there was no assistance given although it is their responsibility. We are disappointed with these kind of attitude but not to worry as the State Government is always prepared to help for the residents’ convenience,” he said after a site visit at the bridge accompanied by Hulu Selangor District Engineer (JPS), Halim Masri.

Halim said, construction started last July 21 and is expected to finish by this September 14.

He said that the bridge however can only be used by light vehicles such as motorcycles, bicycle and pedestrians.

“The residents here requested to build a concrete bridge for small-capacity vehicles to facilitate residents particularly students going to school.

“It is not suitable for cars, we are fulfilling the residents’ request, as asked by the State Government,” he said.
