2018 QS University Ranking – MIT world best, UM best in Malaysia

SHAH ALAM, OCT 17: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was ranked the best in the world for 2018 in a report issued by QS University Ranking, an agency based in United Kingdom that conducts regional and global ranking.

Stanford University was ranked second while Harvard University was third, in the list of university ranking published on its official website at www.topuniversities.com today.

In Asia ranking, Nanyang Technological University is the top on the list followed by the National University of Singapore while The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was on the third rank.

In the meantime, for Malaysia, Universiti Malaya (UM) topped the list while Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) followed in second place and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in third place.

The country’s five research universities showed improvements in the QS University Rankings: Asia 2018 when got into the list of 50 best universities in Asia.

Universiti Malaya (UM) recorded the best achievement when it climbed the rank to be at 24th place this year compared to 27th last year.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recorded an admirable success when it jumped 13 steps from being at the 49th place last year to 36th this year.

Meanwhile Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) climbed 12 ranks from 55 to 43 this year.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) also showed improvement after dropping last year when it bounced back into the top-50 list.

The position saw USM rose five rungs from 51st position last year to 46th this year, while UTM rose 14 rungs from 63rd position to 49th this year.

This time assessment involves 425 major universities from 17 Asian countries, based on 10 indicators.

The indicators are academic reputation, employer, student to faculty ratio, study publications in each faculty, publishing citation, international faculty ratio, number of staff holding a doctorate degree (PhD), international and exchange student ratios.
