MDKL champion of beach sustainability and beauty

BANTING, 1 Jan: The collective effort by the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) in beautifying development and beaches in its district throughout 2014 bore fruit when it was named as the winner for the Selangor State Level Adopted Beach Programme 2014.

The Yang Dipertua of MDKL, Mohd Azhar Ali, said that the success was achieved through the implementation of the MDKL Integrated Coastal Management in collaboration with various parties to create smart partnership towards the sustainable development of coastal environments.

“We have carried out various activities with the local community such as the Beautification of Pantai Batu Laut, the Plant a Tree Campaign, the Adopted Beach Premier Gotong-royong and many more.

“All these programmes also involve various stakeholders such as Resident Representative Councils (MPP), the Selangor Sailing Sports Club, Persatuan Rakan Prihating, Jaringan Anak Muda Selangor and all government departments and agencies from the district of Kuala Langat,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Azhar said that although Pantai Morib and Pantai Kelanang are famous among tourists, MDKL and the Kuala Langat District Land Office have taken the decision to bet on the uniqueness of the Pantai Batu Laut landscape with the aim of promoting the beach to become a main attraction of tourists.

This is because Pantai Batu Laut features its own charm when it became a fixed location of the sailboat championship every year.

“Commitment and social responsibility awareness in maintaining the beauty and conservation of Pantai Batu Laut has been translated through the beauty of the surrounding landscape by everyone, especially local residents.

“I hope that the community in the area of Pantai Batu Laut will continue their agreement and unity in ensuring that Pantai Batu Laut will become a preferred tourist destination in Kuala Langat,” he said.

Selangor had five local authorities that have beaches in the area under their supervision. Apart from MDKL, the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), the Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS), the Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB) and the Sepang Municipal Council (MPS) also have an array of beaches.
