Create programme to eradicate poverty

SHAH ALAM, 9 Sept: State Exco members have been urged to include a poverty eradication programme in the portfolios they are holding.

The Chairman of the Select Committee on Poverty Eradication, Saari Sungib, said that this is because almost all the portfolios involve residents categorised as poor.

“As an Exco member, they are busy, especially since each of them hold two or three portfolios.

“Say, the Exco who is in charge of squatter settlements, there are also poor people there.

“Similarly with tourism and environment, when it involved the indigenous people who are also in the poor category,” he told Selangor Kini.

He said this after chairing the closed hearing for the Poverty Eradication Select Committee meeting at the Meeting Room, Annex Building, yesterday.

He said that poverty eradication programmes in Selangor can be done in a more widespread manner as a result of cooperation from all parties.

Saari said that at the moment, Exco members are only actively holding programmes involving their respective portfolios.
