Night market issue: Traders, premises owners need tolerance

AMPANG, 5 Sept: The actions of traders at the night market in Jalan Pandan Indah 4/1 of not complying with the operation times allowed has caused unease among the premises owners there.

The Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that there are traders who set up stalls as early as 3.30 pm, but the time allowed is at 4.30 pm.

He said that the actions of night market traders of placing merchandise on the sidewalks does not only obstruct the path, but also affects the business of premises owners.

“The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has issued a notice for the night market operations to only be allowed after 4.30 pm.

“I am asking for traders to obey time to ensure that these problems do not persist and cause unwanted incidences,” he said after visiting the area yesterday.

At the same time, Iskandar, who is also the Chempaka Assemblyman, also advised premises owners to cooperate by moving their vehicles to give way to night market operations.

He said that night market traders who are conducting business at the car park experienced dilemma when there are still vehicles that are not moved despite the notice being issued.

“Tolerance between all parties will make the night market operations smoother involving 387 traders.

“So, when owners do not cooperate, traders have to ‘lift’ their vehicles causing arguments and this is what we want to avoid,” he said.
