SHAH ALAM, 19 Feb: The four main methods to monitor road paving have been set for contractors appointed by the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL).
The Yang DiPertua, Mohd Azhar Mohamed Ali, said that they are carrying out road thickness tests to ensure that the area paved is according to the prescribed standards.
“In addition, Sieve Analysis will also be carried out to determine the size of the premix stones.
“We are also carrying out density tests to determine the durability of the paving, in addition to control temperature and the type of premix carried out at the site when the work is carried out,” he told Selangor Kini.
For the year 2014, MDKL spent RM25.3 million, including MARRIS provisions, to repair and resurface 97 roads covering an area of 154,953 metres.
Azhar said that there are 106 contractors involved and fines were imposed on two contractors for late completion of work.
“We will also set the warranty period that begins six months after the project is completed.
“For projects involving tenders, one year is set from the date of completion,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) allocated RM78 million in 2014 to pave or repair roads in areas under their supervision, covering 193,457 kilometres.
“The contract for road paving is done wither by quotation or tenders,” said the Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad.
He said that MBSA will instruct contractors to resurface roads until it meets the prescribed standards if they fail in the road thickness test.
“MBSA is very committed to providing the best quality and we have a road unit under the Engineering Department to monitor roads in our area,” he said.
