He said that the programme began at Kampung Sri Aman on October 29, 2011, that was implemented through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was signed between MPSJ, CIMB Bank Berhad and USM.

“MPSJ received cooperation from CIMB which contributed RM60,000 in funds through promotional costs, advice from USM and other needs during the implementation of the programme.

“It is an innovation developed by MPSJ to use the Toxo mosquitoes in the effort to reduce the Aedes mosquito population.

“Toxo mosquito pupae, otherwise known as “elephant mosquitoes” eat the Aedes pupae that reduce the breeding of the dengue carriers,” he told Selangor Kini.

Muhammad Azli said that until now, MPSJ is still carrying out the Toxo programme as one of the innovations to help reduce dengue cases in their administrative area.

He said that they also intend to expand the programme to other appropriate places.

Meanwhile, the statistics for dengue cases registered in the MPSJ area for the Epid 1 to 5 week totals 1,625 cases and from this number, nine cases were confirmed to be hemorrhagic dengue fever.

Muhammad Azli said that the readings according to division are Epid 1, from January 4 to 10, 246 cases; Epid 1 (January 11 to 17), 279 cases; Epid 3 (January 18 to 24), 273 cases; Epid 4 (January 25 to 31), 396 cases and Epid 5 (February 1 to 7), 413 cases.

“The number of case localities for all Epid weeks is 52 localities for new outbreaks, 54 localities that are under control, 33 localities that are uncontrolled and 57 hotspots.

“Among the hotspots with the highest records are PJS9/1, with 86 cases; Taman Lestari Putra 3 (62), Batu 13 Kampung Sri Aman (Lorong Bestari) (50), SS15/5 (49) and Taman Puncak Jalil 4A (Jalan PUJ 4/1 – PUJ 4/9) and Taman Punchong Perdana (Jalan Mawar) (44),” he said.
