MES Audit: Selangor Government with MACC to fight corruption, abuse of power

SHAH ALAM, 16 July: The Selangor Government has signed an agreement with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to ensure that the administrative practices of the state government are done transparently and with integrity.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that this includes auditing the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) Scheme which is being carried out at all offices of Assemblymen, Members of Parliament and State Legislative Assembly Coordinators’ offices across Selangor at the moment.

“The audit will be done by the State Treasurer and also a state internal audit because that is the procedure and the procedure is carried out like the National Audit Department.

“We have made an agreement of understanding with the MACC in order to ensure that state administrative procedures are done properly and orderly.

“Sometimes, the MACC will join the state audit in conducting research that aims to help the state in determining that the state government’s on-going efforts can reduce corruption and abuse of power,” said Abdul Khalid during a press conference after chairing the Executive Councillors meeting at the State Government Secretary’s Building today.

Prior to this, the state government audited MES programmes at the offices of Assemblymen and Members of Parliament across Selangor to ensure the effectiveness of the programme and whether it has reached the target group.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Alliance of Selangorians Supporting the Mentri Besar (PASMEB) lodged a report to the MACC about several Assemblymen and Members of Parliament’s offices claimed to have irregularities in managing MES funds to be channeled to the local community through their respective offices.
