CM: Halal Kit to detect pig DNA to be developed

SHAH ALAM, 10 June: The State Government has taken the initiative to provide a Halal Kit, a high-tech detection device, to detect non-Halal contents in the short-term.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the project would cost RM1.3 million and is expected to be completed in 18 months.

He said that the State Government will begin talks with several companies, including Nestle, to discuss this matter.

“We will see how to define the core to be accepted by Muslims, and even, other religions,” he said when presenting the summary of the State Budget 2015 Dialogue at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC).

Abdul Khalid said that the move is also being taken to convince the people of the valid Halal logo and that it is reliable, in addition to sceptical perceptions from the community.

As a component of the Selangor Halal Hub, the Selangor innovation clusters will play a key role for the success of high-tech studies and research in the Halal industry.

Indirectly, the cluster will be the nucleus in the field of innovation and science to the Selangor Halal Hub.

Recently, the country was shocked by the discovery of pig DNA in two Cadbury chocolate products.

However, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) confirmed that the DNA was not found in the chocolate products concerned.
