SHAH ALAM, 30 May: The Selangor Government has asked to reveal the project plans and arguments on how the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX) can overcome traffic problems.
The Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, Khalid Samad, said that the State Government has asked to hear the voices of the residents before proceeding with the project, in line with the principle of consultancy practiced by Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
“Consulting with the public is important because it distinguishes Barisan Nasional (BN) and PR. We ask for Selangor to internalise these principles and it is a call to the state and Putrajaya,” he said when met here yesterday.
He said this in response to the statement by the Minister of Public Works, Datuk Fadillah Yusof, who admitted that the project was approved by the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) over two years ago, on February 23, 2012.
Khalid also questioned the existence of a ‘masterplan’ because the 14-kilometre expressway, at the cost of RM2.4 billion, originally came up after being proposed by private parties.
He said that the project looks like it is poorly managed and there is no detailed plan, such as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report and the provision of alternative public infrastructure, including a route for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) for users.
“The infrastructure is so mixed up because there is no masterplan. I see that this project shows disregard. We also do not want the Federal Government to profit easily through revenue from toll concessions,” he said.
The KIDEX expressway will link the Damansara-NKVE junction at the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) in the north to Bandar Kinrara in the south.
The KIDEX, at a cost of RM48 million per kilometre, is expected to take about four years to be completed.
