SHAH ALAM, JUL 1: The State Government welcomes all efforts from any party to turn Selangor into a welfare state.
According to Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi, this includes initiatives by corporations and individuals in contributing to the Selangor Children’s Heritage Foundation (YAWAS).
“I hope and call on all Selangor Government subsidiary companies, private companies and even individuals to contribute and support the foundation’s effort.
“Let us together, put our commitment and support into this effort so that Selangor continues to be recognised as a developed state that prioritises the welfare of its citizens,” she said in a statement.
YAWAS is a scheme that provides financial support to its members who suffer from chronic illnesses, the loss of parents and who are victims of natural disasters.
YAWAS had been formulating a long-term plan to strengthen its role in support of the State Government to turn Selangor into a welfare state.
This includes a cooperation plan with Selangor Zakat Board to help YAWAS children who are less fortunate.
In addition, employees of state-owned companies are encouraged to make salary deductions as low as RM10 to be donated to YAWAS Generation Fund (TERAS).
TERAS, launched in 2014, allows donors of the scheme to enjoy income tax rebates by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.
Individuals are eligible to enjoy a 7% rebate on aggregate income, while companies can enjoy a 10% rebate on aggregate income.
