SHAH ALAM, 6 Apr: Sports equipment and facilities needed by the Malaysian Sports (Sukma) athletes will be provided this year to avoid equipment that cannot be used like last year.
The Sports Exco, Amiruddin Shari (PKR-Batu Caves) said that the initiative is to enable athletes to use the equipment when training.
“Normally, the practice of buying equipment is done according to the annual budget, but for this year, we will provide equipment early even though the Sukma will be held in 2016.
“We do not want a repeat of last year where shooting equipment did not arrive in time before the Sukma, causing athletes to not have good equipment when the Sukma took place.
“However, Selangor managed to win seven gold medals. In relation to that, this year we will make an application early to purchase equipment for Sukma athletes,” he said during the State Assembly session when answering a supplementary question from Khairuddin Othman (PAS-Paya Jaras).
