SHAH ALAM, 30 Apr: The State Government will continue to take proactive measures to ensure that the water supply in the Klang Valley is safe, even after the water rationing ends tomorrow.
The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that ongoing measures, among others, are to face the dry season, which is expected to begin in May until September.
He said that the State Government is now working to gain support and permission from the Federal Government to use expertise from Thailand to carry out cloud seeding with the ‘Ejectable Flare Rack’ method.
“I have also written a letter to the Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, on April 20.
“Based on the information obtained, there are restrictions in performing this technique because it is believed to have elements that may have an impact on national security issues,” he said in a press conference after chairing the Executive Council Meeting today.
Previously, the State Government intended to use the cloud seeding technology known as ‘The Royal Rainmaking Technology’ owned by the Thai Government to obtain rain at least three times a week.
Abdul Khalid said that the State Government will continue to intensify efforts to increase the water supply to face critical periods in future.
“We have provided RM10 million to buy pumps and for the purchase of infrastructure to carry out pumping operations.
“These pumps will be used to pump excess river water into the reservoir as an early preparation and will be pumped back into the river during the dry season.
“With this method, water release from dams will be more manageable and the period for the dam to reach a critical point can be extended from five to six months,” he said.
